On Sunday, September 24, 2017, the Alea Chapter in Las Vegas, NV hosted an after church coffee at St. John the Baptist Church in Las Vegas. All of the proceeds were earmarked for the IOCC hurricane relief fund. The parish responded very generously, $500.00 was raised.
The Alea Chapter donated an additional $250.00, making a total of $750.00 sent to the IOCC for hurricane relief. The IOCC is always there to respond to people in need during natural disasters, which is why the Alea Chapter chose to partner with them to help people during difficult times.

Greetings to Chapter Officers and Members,
As many of you know, San Diego was the next chapter in line to host the 2017 PFA Western District Convention. The San Diego organizing committee, under the leadership of President Fred Georggin, ran into many difficulties ranging from numerous conflicting dates to extremely high hotel rates beginning with the Memorial Day weekend. It appeared that we might not even come close to reaching a quorum of delegates for dates where they could get reasonable hotel rates.
The District Lodge met to discuss options and has voted to cancel this year’s PFA Western District Convention.
There were several factors supporting this decision:
After further discussions with San Diego, the District Lodge voted that we will move on to have the San Jose Chapter host the 2018 PFA Western District Convention. As a reminder, the rotation order for PFA Western District Conventions has been:
2009 San Diego, 2010 San Jose, 2011 Las Vegas, 2012 Oakland, 2013 Los Angeles, 2014 San Francisco, 2015 Salt Lake City, 2016 Denver
Therefore, we were scheduled to start the sequence again with San Diego in 2017, and then San Jose in 2018.
Even though there will not be a 2017 District Convention, we will still be soliciting applications for our Western District scholarships. Scholarship applications are available on our WD PFA website under both the News and Download sections. Applications are due by May 15, 2017, and it is expected that award letters will be mailed out by June 1, 2017.
Other typical district convention agenda items such as chapter reports, budget & financial reports, project reports, youth report, and the Arcadian of the Year selection, will be postponed until the 2018 regular Western District Convention hosted by the San Jose Chapter.
